PMB: Should Tell Nigerians How Much Looted Monies He has Recovered

Buhari and Okonjo Iweala
The other day, the former finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, told Nigerians that all the General Abacha recovered looted monies was used for the poor. As an accountant, she should know that such verbal statements are not tenable anywhere.

Accountant is paid to prepare statement of accounts and also defend same. If I may ask, how many poor got what? from the money, what are the names of the states the money was shared and how many poor got what, was the monies, for their feeding, education, social amenities or used for infrastructures? These, questions needs to be answered by the former finance minister, which, failure to do so, would be seen as fraud or as another case of looter looted from the loot.

Back to the matter at hand. One of the cardinal campaign point of PMB was he will fight corruption and ensure every kobo, stolen, misappropriated are recovered and accounted for. Today the wind of change is blowing across the length and bright of the nation on looters and their looted monies.

I was discussing the other day with friends on the achievements so far recorded by PMB, some says his doing his best to fix the enormous challenges of Nigeria, others says his not operating at the high speed he is expected to.

But the major issue that took the front burner that day was the issue of the looted monies recovered so far. As a caring Father and President that promised Nigerians and whole World he belongs to nobody but to everybody, one would think that view would be carried out to the letter in his daily activities as Mr. President.

Two months into Mr. President in office, Nigerian landscape has it that so many looters that have looted our monies have started returning their loots, but, today; Nigerians are yet to know the true state of this matter. Are some monies actually recovered, is there any special account open for the looters recovered monies, how much has been recovered, what is the monies meant for?

Mr. President will do well to carry Nigerians who gave their mandate to him along. He should realize silence is approval in some cases. Mr. President should realize Nigeria is not his personal estate, but a sacred trust entrusted to him.

We need to hear from him from time to time on the affairs of the nation. Nigerians want to share his joys and his sad moments, but, by keeping silence, he is keeping everybody in the dark.

We hope at the end of his tenure, it will not be like the case of Ngozi Okonji –Iweala, who kept Nigerians in the dark, but when she sees fire on the mountain, she is now telling us what she should have told us in the beginning.
