Chief Justice of Nigeria [CJN], Justice Mahmud Mohammed and the
Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) were sharply divided yesterday over allegations of corrupt judicial officers.
President of the NBA, Mr. Agustine Alegeh [SAN] had, while speaking at the investiture of new Senior Advocates of Nigeria and at a special session to mark the 2015 legal year condemned the attitude of judges in the country who trade judgments for money.
In his response, the CJN, who differed on the position, challenged the NBA President to provide names of such judges for disciplinary measures.
Besides, the NBA described the ongoing legal battle between Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the Federal Government as an unnecessary distraction.
“The current face-off between the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the Federal High court is an unnecessary distraction at this time,” he said.
