The Nigerian Muslim Forum (NMF) in United Kingdom (UK) has spent N2.6 million on purchasing grains and distributing as Zakatul Fitr, paying for food to breakfast and offsetting fines for prisoners to secure their release.
Director of Communications Grains, Dr. Aliyu Musa, in a statement on Monday in Kaduna, said the items worth N2.1 million (£7,100) were procured and distributed as zakatul fitr to the needy and the indigent across 27 states of Nigeria.
“Similarly the Forum, in continuation of its Iftar programme, made available N330,000 (£1100) to pay for food for needy people breaking fast during the month of Ramadhan in 11 states of the country,” Dr. Musa said.
“The Charity took a step further to secure the release of 12 prisoners jailed on account of debt who had an option of fine but were unable to pay. N169, 000 (£600) was provided to offset the prisoners’ debt in some parts of the country,” he added.
The director added that, the NMF UK realised funds for its various programmes like Orphan Sponsorship, Health Outreach, Education Support, support to victims of conflict and disaster, Iftar Sponsorship and Prisoner Release through contributions from members, non-members, direct Mosque collections and Fund raisers through its UK Chapters and Radio/TV/Telephone appeals. It also accepts donations through its website.
