Nigeria Police Rescue 24 Children in Calabar

Twenty-Four children allegedly abducted by a woman and her daughter have been...
rescued by the police in Calabar.
They were rescued on Friday from a building along Asuquo Abasi Street, Efut Abasi Uwanse, Calabar South Local Government Area.
A 55 year old woman and her 27 year-old daughter, Inameti Etuk, in the room with the children were arrested by the police and taken to Mbukpa Police Station in the city.
At the time of the rescue, the children were cramped in a fortified room manned by their captors.
But for the timely intervention of the police, the suspects would have been lynched by angry mob.
Clan head of Efut Abasi Uwanse, Muri Okon Etim Effiong, said he was alerted of the incident by the landlord of the premises the abducted children were kept.
“The landlord informed me that one of his tenants, Miss Inameti Etuk who claimed to be a student was keeping some children in her one room apartment. When I got there I was shocked by the number of children I saw in the room.
“I alerted the police who rescued the children. They also saved the suspects from being lynched."
When interrogated, the woman said she was the General Overseer of God is God Victory Ministry.
She said the children were not abducted, but were about being moved to Akwa Ibom State where they would be kept in an orpahange.
The woman said she runs an orphanage recognised by the federal government where children were trained in various skills while those of them willing to go to school were sponsored by the orphanage.
The landlord of the premises where the children were rescued, Mr. Nsikak Ekpo, said he was notified of the presence of the children by his wife.
Ekpo said, “My wife informed me that about 20 children were brought in a truck to my compound this morning and were camped in Inameti’s room."
He said when he confronted Inameti who claimed to be a student of the University of Calabar (UNICAL); she admitted that her mother brought the children.

Ekpo said he immediately informed the clan head who alerted the police who moved in to rescue the children while the woman and her daughter were arrested.
