Nigeria Looters: Will it be Trial without Punishment Still?

The ongoing uhuru over the pronouncement by President Muhammadu Buhari that looters will soon be tried in few weeks is not new to Nigerians because it is not the trial of the alleged looters that matters, but making sure that they get the actual punishment they deserve for milking the nation dry and inflicting hardship on millions of Nigerians.


A look down memory lane will only bring to mind scout - free looters parading our streets freely without justice daring their lane, the likes of Fani Kayode was tried, at the end freed from all evidence that proved him guilty, The former Speaker in Nigeria 6th House of Representatives Rt. Hon. Demeji Bankole was involved in the scandal of financial misappropriation but today he is a glorified freed man. Also the former Governor of oil rich Beyelsal State, Mr. Timi Priye Silva was he not tried, what came out if I may ask? Not forgetting James Ibori the former Governor of Delta State who was tried, discharged and acquitted here in Nigeria but, found guilty for same offence in a London Court and sentenced to imprisonment. Just to mention a few.

There was a time in a Nollywood home video style Nigerian governors were taken to Kuje awaiting trial for corruption, nothing happened in the end. They were all freed and nothing came out of it. The tax payer’s money is still used to fly these Kangaroo trials. Nigerians are tired of probes without

PMB’S dream of fighting to a standstill will be a mirage if fails to strengthen institutions such as the judiciary and the law enforcement agencies. The present government should also raise the moral standard in Nigeria through the national orientation agency. Also PMB administration should carry out a total over hauled of the judicial system to obtain China’s result. Without these measures in place, the current sincere efforts by the present Government to combat corruption would not yield the expected out come by Mr. President and Nigerians.
