About 17 people were killed in Kano yesterday
following twin bomb blasts executed by
two Hijab-wearing female suicide
bombers, it was learnt.
About 56 others were injured from the blast and were rushed to
Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital while 46 were taken to Aminu Kano
Teaching Hospital, according to witnesses. Another 17 injured people
were attended to at Abdullahi Wase Hospital.
Kano State Police Commissioner, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Katsina, who
briefed newsmen, however, said the bomb killed only three people and
only eight others critically injured.
Katsina said one of the bombs went off inside the market while the
other was detonated outside the market by the other female bomber. Both
bombs were believed to have gone off simultaneously.
Eyewitness, however, told National lifewatch that the two female suicide
bombers were dropped off the busy GSM market by commercial Sharon
vehicle .
Alhaji Ibrahim Usman, a trader in the market, told National lifewatch at the
scene that when the blast went off, he saw several persons down as a
result of the blast. “The noise of the blast was unbelievably loud. You
could hear the huge sound go up in the sky and shook the market,” he
stated.
“Several people were screaming at the same time , they were shouting
hysterically, asking for their relatives and friends, some of whom had
been injured or were already dead. But, we stood afar and watched. My
brother the thing is not good,” he stated in Hausa.
