Boko Haram Plan to Poison water Sources in North-East, says Army

The Nigerian Army has called for more
vigilance by the people of the North-East as Boko Haram insurgents plan to poison sources of drinking water in the region. The Assistant Director Army Public Relations of 33 Artillery Brigade Bauchi, Major Joseph Adekunle Afolasade, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.

“The command wishes to inform the general public that Boko Haram terrorist plan to buy large quantities of rat poison and other poisonous items from markets in Nigeria to enable them poison water sources particularly in the North-eastern states,” the statement said.

It urged citizens of the region to report any person buying large quantities of such commodities to security agencies. “The Nigerian Army Theatre Command therefore called on the general public particularly the market men and women vendor in such items to be vigilant,” the statement added.

It also re-iterated the determination of the Nigerian Army along with the support of other security agencies to defeat the Boko Haram terrorist in the country. It is recalled that the insurgents were earlier reported to have planned to poison water sources in Borno State.
