Dare devil armed bandits in military camouflage stormed two banks on 4th Avenue, FESTAC town, Lagos and carted away huge amount of money on Tuesday.
The robbers were said to have arrived the 4th Avenue road in two speed boats and held staffs and customers of Access and Diamond Banks hostage for hours.
They also robbed passers-by of their belongings.
A source said the robbers also went away through the waterways to the lagoon.
National lifewatch learnt that there were sporadic shooting between the robbers and the police from FESTAC town, led by the Area Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police Frank Mba.
The shooting between the police and the fleeing gun men drew the attention of residents in the neigbouhood.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Joseph Offor, confirmed the incident. He said the police was on top of the situation.
