The public outcry by Nigeria actor, Emeka Ike over the many troubles in his marital life is
very pitiable and sympathetic; it shows how he desires to have an unbroken home or marriage. It shows how much love he still has for his wife; it further shows how much he loves his children.

His accusation of his pastor, Chris Okotie as being the architect behind the wife’s unbendable decision to quit the marriage even in the face of his much pleas is not too surprising or alarming because Okotie himself has not being able to break the snare of devoice that have marred his life resulting in his first and second episode with Tina and Stephanie. Well, it is said that show me your friend and I will show you who you are, in the same vein, show me your pastor and I will show you who you are.

From his lamentations it is clear that the feud between the actor and his wife, Suzanne, has gone way past the point of repair, with the wife filing a divorce suit before a Customary Court in Lagos. Suzanne is seeking dissolution of her 12-year-old marriage over alleged assault from her husband of which Ike vehemently denies ever assaulting his beloved wife.

In the books of mark 10:1-12 and Mt 19:1-9 Jesus Christ answers to the issue of devoice goes thus:

1 Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them. 2 Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" 3"What did Moses command you?"

he replied. 4 They said, "Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away." 5 "It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied. 6 "But at the beginning of creation God 'made them male and female.' 7 'For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, 8 and the two will become one flesh.'

So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." 10When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this. 11 He answered, "Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her. 12 And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery."

The binding nature of marriage does not depend on the will or the acts of the persons, but on its original character and institution. By the cancelation of the Mosaic relaxation and the restoration of marriage to its original principle, Christ not only enforces the high dignity of this ordinance, but obviates many opportunities of wickedness, such, for instance, as collusion between husband and wife with a view to obtain freedom for marriage with others.

It doesn't matter whether it is Chris Oyalkhilome that is devoicing or Chris Okotie the scripture has conspicuously point to the fact that devoice is a sin against God. Popular opinion might promote devoice but God’s word remains unbroken.

Mr. Ike’s public outcry underscores the fact that he does not trust in God and the word of God teaches that we should trust in him at all times. Running around to throw accusations and blames will not solve the problem but heighten it. The bitterness of life comes to all, to another it may come in form of a troublous marriage, to another it may come in form of financial difficulties, whatever shape it comes always, look on to God.

“O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!”
