Several persons were last night feared killed in multiple bomb explosions which rocked Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to residents of the town, two of the bombs which were planted at a mosque, exploded at about 7.30p.m. when the Muslims congregated to observe their prayers.
The other explosion occurred almost simultaneously at a close distance
from the mosque at a joint where teenagers gathered to play computer
games.
It was also gathered that the third area where another explosion
occurred was also in the same vicinity of Ajilari cross, a mini business
centre where bean cake and yam are prepared.
A resident of the highly populated Ajilari cross, Idris Abba, told Reporters on phone that the four explosions happened simultaneously at
about 7.30p.m.
Abba said the first two explosions were at the mosque and occurred when the Muslim faithful were gathered for prayers.
He claimed that though the number of casualties was not yet confirmed
as the entire area was in disarray, “many people are definitely dead.”
Another resident of the area, Beatrice Yakubu, said the two other
explosions were at a mini business site where many go to for their
supper.
She said the bombs must have been planted in the vicinity without the knowledge of the people.
She lamented that just when the people were getting to come to terms
with the explosions another occurred where young boys were gathered to
play computer games and charge their handsets.
As at the time of filing this report, there was no official
confirmation as to the number of casualties but a statement from the
acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman,
said the attacks signified the level of desperation on the part of the
Boko Haram terrorists.
