The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the alleged suspension of
the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, and the Lagos State Chairman of the party, Capt. Olatunji Shelle, describing it as untrue and misleading.

The party’s position was contained in a resolution passed by it’s National Working Committee (NWC) at its meeting last Wednesday over the brewing crisis in the Anambra and Lagos States chapters.

In a statement issued by the National Legal Adviser, Mr. Victor Kwon, the NWC “urge all party faithful to go about their normal activities, in accordance with the constitution of the party and extant laws of the land.

“The NWC of the PDP notes with concern, misleading reports in some section of the media that a certain group in Anambra State, unknown to our party, has purportedly suspended the National Publicity Secretary of our great party, Metuh.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the NWC reiterates that Metuh is a member of the party National Executive Committee (NEC) and as such can only be disciplined by NEC, in accordance with Sections 57(7) and 59(3) of the PDP Constitution 2012 (as Amended), and that is in the event that a need for such arises. The purported suspension is therefore a nullity.

“The NWC restates its implicit confidence in the National Publicity Secretary and expresses satisfaction with his commitment towards the progress and development of our great party at all levels.

“In the same vein, the NWC declared as nullity, the purported ‘impeachment’ of Shelle, the Lagos State Chairman of the party, by the state Executive.
The statement said the Lagos State Chairman is also a member of NEC and can only be disciplined by NEC as prescribed by the PDP constitution.

“Members of the party in the state with genuine complains and grievances on the running of the chapter are at liberty to channel such to the NWC for appropriate action, in line with the provisions of the constitution of our great party,” it said.

PDP leaders and stakeholders in Anambra State, including the state executives and all members of the National Assembly from the state, had in a statement on August 14, 2015, dismissed the purported sack of Metuh and unanimously passed a vote of implicit confidence on him.

In the same vein, the PDP NWC had in a letter to the police command, dated August 25, 2015, and signed by the Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, affirmed the election of the Prince Ken, Emeakayi-led, executives in Anambra State, following its authorised congress of July 21 to 25, 2015, thereby putting to rest, contentions regarding the leadership of the party in the state.

Also when contacted, the Anambra State Chairman of the party, Prince Ken Emeakayi, commended the position of the national leadership, adding that the NWC had even written to the state police command emphatically on the state of the party in the state.

He warned those allegedly trying to impress the APC-led government, by attempting to orchestrate an impression that there is crisis in the state chapter, to desist from such act.
