Electricity Workers threatens Strike

THE National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has threatened to embark on industrial action if the management of the
Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PEDC) does not implement the agreement reached with the union.

Briefing newsmen yesterday in Owerri, the Assistant National Secretary of the union, Mr. Akoh Cyprian Ndubuisi, warned the power company to henceforth, stop its anti- labour activities and immediately recall the 43 Distribution System Operators, who were arbitrarily dismissed without due process and to put an end to the causalisation of workers.

Akoh regretted the deliberate refusal of the company to negotiate with the union on the company’s procedural agreement and conditions of service, aimed at stemming the tide of exploitation and dehumanisation of workers of the company.

He accused the Port Harcourt Electricity Company of enslaving its workers with impunity, warning that the union would no longer fold its arms and watch while its members are being maltreated by the company.

“The management of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company should not misinterpret our love for peace and patriotism as a sign of weakness as labour would not hesitate to resume its industrial action if the agreement reached is not implemented before 26, August 2015.

The Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company is the only company, out of the 18 investors that has deliberately refused the union to operate.”
