Ahead of November 21 governorship election in Kogi State, the state Governor, Idris Wada, has said those seeking to unseat him using the influence of President Muhammadu Buhari will be disappointed.
Wada said he is convinced that the Buhari-factor will not necessarily have any impact on the governorship election.
Speaking with journalists shortly after picking his nomination and Expression of Interest forms at the national secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the governor said he was not worried about the party’s decision not to give him automatic ticket for the election.
The governor expressed optimism that he would emerge the party’s candidate given the massive support he was already receiving from the state.
He however pledged that he would support whoever emerges as the PDP candidate for the election in the event he fails at the party’s primary election.
The governor, who came to the party national secretariat with his numerous supporters, said: “No doubt, having the APC president at the federal level may have impact on the election, but I am confident that our people will vote massively for PDP.
“You could observe that while Buhari won the presidential election in Kogi State, PDP clearly won the state assembly positions. That shows that PDP is clearly on ground in the state.
“With the work we have done in mobilising the youths, the women and the elders of our party to analyse what led to our performance in the last election, I believe our party is solid in the state.
“You can see the number of people that came here to support me, I did not invite anybody, and that
shows that PDP is alive in the state. By the grace of God, we will win the forthcoming election.
“I will put in my best to win, but if I don’t, and it a fair primary, I will support any candidate that eventually emerged,” he added.
